In brief

Keep perfume away from heat and direct light and close it properly after use. Follow the product packaging and brand instructions. A shaded cupboard can be a more suitable everyday home than a sunny display.

A beautiful display may not be good storage

Windowsills, radiators and places that often become hot can look attractive in photographs without being suitable for long-term storage. Consider heat and light before display.

Give the bottle a stable place where it is unlikely to fall. Keeping the original carton can help shield it from light and preserve identifying information.

Make the small routine consistent

Close the bottle as designed and put it back carefully. Keep the opening and packaging clean. Avoid mixing perfumes into unlabelled containers for display.

When carrying a bottle, check its condition and spray mechanism and keep its product details. A smaller size may be convenient, but still needs careful handling.

Look to the individual product for timing

Do not apply one storage lifespan to every fragrance. Product condition, packaging and brand guidance are more useful, and colour alone cannot answer every question.

If its smell, packaging or condition leaves you unsure, contact the brand with the fragrance code and relevant photographs so it can be checked.
